Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled CAD Engineer II with hands-on experience in composite design and manufacturing to support the development of cutting-edge UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) systems. The ideal candidate will be responsible for 3D modeling, 2D drafting, and design validation of composite structures and components, from concept to production. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams including aerodynamics, structures, systems engineering, and manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop composite structural components for UAV platforms (e.g., fuselage, wings, control surfaces).
- Create and manage detailed 3D CAD models and 2D drawings using SolidWorks /CATIA V5/NX.
- Work closely with aerodynamics, systems, and manufacturing engineers to ensure design feasibility, performance, and manufacturability.
- Apply knowledge of composite layup, tooling design, and bonding techniques in the design process.
- Develop lightweight, structurally efficient components while ensuring compliance with aerospace standards.
- Perform tolerance stack-up analysis, BOM (Bill of Materials) generation, and release drawings into PLM systems (e.g., Teamcenter, Windchill).
- Support design reviews, FAI (First Article Inspections), and DFM (Design for Manufacturability) initiatives.
- Conduct design changes, ECNs (Engineering Change Notices), and maintain accurate design documentation.
- Participate in prototyping, testing, and validation of new UAV components and systems.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
- 3–6 years of experience as a CAD engineer in the aerospace domain.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software: SolidWorks, CATIA V5, Siemens NX.
- Strong understanding of composite materials, layup processes, and design principles.
- Experience designing for UAVs, drones, or light aircraft is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5), aerospace drawing standards, and AS9100 practices.
- Familiarity with PLM/PDM systems such as Teamcenter or Windchill.
- Ability to interpret engineering requirements and translate them into manufacturable designs.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in generative design or topology optimization for lightweight structures.
- Exposure to finite element analysis (FEA) collaboration.
- Hands-on experience with composite manufacturing processes like vacuum bagging, resin infusion, or autoclave curing.
- Knowledge of UAV systems integration and payload design.
- Experience in rapid prototyping (3D printing, CNC machining).
